Alesis iO Dock Video Overview
Wed, September 14, 2011 at 12:23 PM Still no joy here on a review copy of Alesis' iO Dock, but we found a nice overview video from B&H. Look out for the interesting little tip about latency and the direct monitor switch when using GarageBand.

I bought the Alesis io dock a couple of months back, and it's a great solution for the connectivity issues musicians have had with the iPad.
I've only run into one issue, when connecting a midi keyboard, very often one of the keys have a prolonged sustain, which doesn't go away until I restart the dock, at which point, very often another key gets the issue... After a restart or two more the problem go away, but it's pretty annoying.
I've read several user reviews on the web that mentions the very same problem.
I can't see I can be rectified unless it's somehow possible for Alesis to upgrade firmware in the device.
Other than that the dock works great, and I've been very productive on it, it's so easy to just slide the iPad in, plugin a mic and an instrument, and start playing.
The bulk of good music recording apps works with the dock, the only one I own that doesn't is AmpliTube, and I guess that's a conscious decision of theirs, although in my eyes that's pretty stupid.
I've ditched it in favour of AmpKit +, which, after their latest update, works great.
Lately I've been using MultiTrack DAW a lot as it's allowing for stereo recording, which the io dock makes possible.
@Jan J - Thanks for that comment, we didn't realise AmpliTube doesn't work with the iO Dock, that is very disappointing as we love that app. Maybe it will be fixed in an update.
It would be a good idea to let IK Multimedia know this is an issue for you, we find them quite responsive to feedback. Same with Alesis, they want to know about issues that musicians are having and so would no doubt appreciate your feedback on the MIDI issue.
Appreciate your comment!
My thinking was that it might be on purpose AmpliTube isn't compatible via USB because they want to sell their iRig adapter... They also put an IRig Microphone on the marked, which also uses the jack connection on iPhone and iPad. I may be wrong in thinking that's the reason, it's only my presumption...
If that's the case though, it seems like a daft move...
I would love to be able to use AmpliTube with io dock in addition to AmpKit, they are both great apps, and they provides pretty different kits and sounds.
I am going to write them and ask for io dock support. I like their app VocaLive, and would like to be able to use my own Mics though the dock too. And while I'm at it, I might as well beg them for an iPad edition of that app too.. :-)
Es muy incompatible con entrada de micrófonos phantom power. Un par de minutos y ruidos terribles emanan del io Dock.
