in the smart drums, if the icons are overlapping you can:
- tap quickly on the overlapping icons and it'll move the top one to the "back"
- tapping on a grayed out icon on the right will bring the one you want to the front
Thanks, that is a great, in-depth demonstration video that answered just about every question I had about Garageband for iPad. Now I'm even more excited to get my hands on it when I get my iPad 2!
Well, it's not so bad, but you can get the same knowledge by reading the detailed help from cover to cover.
Not to mention that they say you have to tap the "set the tempo" button once after you set it by hand. That was a fail.
There's no punch recording, or the ability to create multiple takes. So to correct mistakes, you have to rerecord a complete section. That's a good reason for using sections instead of recording free form.
Also, no bass amp for bass guitar or per-channel EQ. Hopefully these features will be coming.
Your tutorial video is appreciated, but it's driving me inSANE that you say "garáž°ge" (with the second "a" pronounced like the short "a" in "cat") instead of gar-AHge.
Small complaint, I know. :P
@Picky Pronouncer - as we are based in the UK, you all sound like you're saying it wrong. :-)
I was wrong about no support for punch recording. You can't select a region and have record automatically turn on and off in a track, and it isn't practical to press record and stop during playback. But if you have a spare track, then you can achieve the desired result. Here's how.
In an empty track (or a track that has empty space where you want to do the punch in), set the instrument you want. Then position the play head somewhere before you want to punch in. Press record and start playing the new take. When the take is finished, press stop.
Now go back and edit the part you just recorded, splitting and trimming off the ends until you have just the segment of the take you want. Next, split the original track at the points where the new take should be placed - this should be righ above the take you just trimmed if the tracks a positioned properly. Now just drag and drop the take segment into the open space in the track and you're done.
This is actually a better approach than punch recording with overwrite as it can be repeated as often as you want, and you can take pieces of different takes. Most DAWs do this automatically with multiple takes. Its a little harder with garageband, and requires some free space available somewhere. But it works ok.
It's a must-have app for any new iPad user.. btw it works on both iPads 1 & 2
That's all very well, but how do you learn how to be musically talented...?
Outstanding job! I plan on watching this series several times. Thank you very much!
OMF is necessity. also General midi.
thanks
He just missed the tap tempo button feature which I use a lot. Here is how to use it...
Think of the tempo of the song you are wanting to create, perhaps the same tempo as something you are listening to or a favorite song, music style etc. Tap the tap tempo button to the beat of the tempo you desire... Watch the number to the right as it conforms to your taps. Remember to tap repeatedly until you get what you want. Pretty slick right. The button DOES NOT do what this tutorial says. It IS MUCH more powerful.
its amazing.Ipa2 is equipped with latest technology of garage band. it awesome and engage the kids in this activity and help them make their music and i tunes.its very effective,
wow...iPad has many uses already...variety of uses..could this be possible to any iPad brand??...
HI I'm not English native speaker and to me you speak way too fast.
Slow down please.. I prefer to watch 60mins video and I understand what you say, rather than 40 mins video with high speed speaking.. Thank you
Haha What the hell is G'raj band? I always thought it was called garage band!
I can't seem to go higher than the ninth fret on the smart guitar. Is there any way to go higher or I there something else I need to buy???
I use GarageBand far more on the PC but I have to say I do like the idea of using it on the iPad could be pretty cool. Hey maybe an actual reason to charge the thing again.
Great job and tutorial. Short but sufficient. I now know how to use the essential features of Garage Band to create my song.
Excellent help! BUT I don't seem to have the jigsaw (section) icon. I'm looking to explore 12 bar but can only get 8 bar sections. Any ideas?
